more monkey mahem

Further to my last entry, I chuckled at this little story on my way home this afternoon....

Apparently, in a Thai province, a trained monkey got sick of climbing up 50m+ trees to get coconuts, so he killed his owner by throwing a coconut that killed his owner instantly...!
See, this got me thinking, about the whole evolution thing and the man/monkey theory. It is common year 10 science knowledge that monkeys ae the closest animal to identify with humans, and that man once evolved from a monkey over many many centuries. I had always just accepted this fact without any thought. Yes, the occasional david attenborough documentary got me appreciating their cleverness, but the last day or so has really made me appreciate and admire the smartness of a monkey. Their observations of human behaviour is expected, i suppose, but for the monkey to actaully want to throw a coconut at it's owner in spite of him, I find this interesting. It makes me question and ponder the thought that animals have actaul feelings (as opposed to we, as humans, interpreting our pets/surrounding animals's mannerisims as feelings of happiness, anger etc)

What really impressed me the most about this story about the monkey, is that the owners bought the monkey for approx $275, as it seemed 'lovable'.
loveable? quite possibly more like coniving, cheeky and spontaneous. or even two faced and fake...

just like humans....
hmmmmm.
